On Hiroko Masuko’s works :
The central motif of Masuko’s monochromatic pen paintings is bonsai. Bonsais are miniaturized, potted trees, created to disclose a spectacular landscape and to instill an appreciation for the
growth and transformation of plants. She first depicts a small motif on canvas, which she says is like “the planting of seeds” of bonsai. She then instinctively depicts moss, snake-scale
patterns, branches, and roots, as they eventually develop into dynamic appearances that are unforeseen by the artist.
